Gong (means grandpa in Chinese) traveled across the sea from China to Phang- Nga by a Chinese junk where he worked as a cook. People would called him . Juumpo” which comes from “ChOng PhO” (means a cook in chinese). Upon arriving Phang-Nga, he started working in a mine.
The culture and Gong’s ways of living are the legacies to his Baba descendants. We will continue his story in the name of Hotel Gahn.
At the end of the day, Gong’s sons and daughters would hear him call from the stair. They would rushed to their beds for gong to sing them a lullaby. Without knowing the meaning of the lullaby, they still relished it and had a good dream.
In the old time, people crossed the ocean by sailing, so did gong. On the Chinese junk, he worked as a cook or a “Juumpo’. When he arrived Thailand, he worked in a mine. Even though he worked as a miner, he still liked to cook and shared his food to others. Whoever had tasted it, loved it and looked forward to enjoy meal time with gong.
As Gong got older with time, he retired from mining to open a little grocery store on the first floor of his own house. Every early morning, he got up to clean and prepare his shop. People passing by would see him greeting, and many times welcoming them with a cup of tea.
Gong and Ama are full of knowledge. They love to share their skills of cooking and handcrafting, not only to their family but also to their friends, with their kindness and courtesy.
